The Clark presents a concert inspired by the newly acquired group of portrait sculptures by Jean-Pierre Dantan, part of the Aso O. Tavitian Collection. Pianist David Kaplan, acclaimed for his interpretations of Robert Schumann, curates a recital exploring musical caricature.
Kaplan juxtaposes Schumann’s musical portraits of Frédéric Chopin, Clara Wieck, and others with music by several of Dantan’s subjects—Johann Strauss, Sigismond Thalberg, and Franz Liszt. Renowned music historian Jan Swafford introduces the program, placing these works in the dynamic context of nineteenth-century Romanticism.
Tickets $15 ($12.75 members, $12 college students, $10 children 17 and under).
