Caitlin Woolsey, assistant director of the Clark's Research and Academic Program and a historian of modern and contemporary art focused on the intersections of sound, performance, and media, explores the sonic in contemporary artworks.
In the first event of the series, Woolsey discusses silent artworks by contemporary artists Christine Sun Kim and Jennie C. Jones that nevertheless provoke us to think about the sonic. Kim's work explores disability and the deaf experience; Jones's minimal sculptures engage with a different tradition of abstraction and improvisatory music by Black artists.
The second event, Listening to the More-Than-Human World, takes place on Tuesday, November 17 at 10 am.
