Caitlin Woolsey, assistant director of the Clark's Research and Academic Program and a historian of modern and contemporary art focused on the intersections of sound, performance, and media, explores the sonic in contemporary artworks.
In the second event of the series, Woolsey takes a close look at works by contemporary artists Rodrigo Arteaga, Christina Kubisch, and Sergei Tcherepnin that use sound to explore intersections between the more-than-human world and music, including making audible the electromagnetic sounds of the urban environment that normally exceed our hearing, and meditating on the affinities between human voices, bird song, and electronic simulation, against a backdrop of ecological crisis.
The first event, Listening Otherwise, takes place on Friday, October 30 at 10 am.
